COURSE PROGRAM AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Description of activities

Learning outcomes

Day 1.

Course introduction:

Attendees get acquainted with the corresponding areas of digital competence as an educator and become self-aware with their own level and ways to improve. As part of the first day, the assessment competence field of the Digital Competence Framework for Educators (DigCompEdu) will be discussed. Furthermore, the differences between paper-based and digital assessment will be explored as well as the opportunities that online testing platforms provide.

Introduction to digital assessment

Where should we start if we aim to create online tests with the most basic functions? Google Forms offer a simple and easily manageable solution for this problem. During this module educators will acquire the know-how to create tests or surveys with the help of Google and through practice they will be able to find its place in their own lessons. The limitations of the platform will also be explored to support participants in handling more complex solutions while using digital tools in the classroom for assessment.

Day 2.

Getting to know our way around Redmenta

Redmenta is one of the most famous and popular testing platforms developed by Hungarian programmers. It offers a wide range of question types that caters for the needs of every teacher when it comes to digital assessment. Educators will get acquainted with its editing features and library management tools, and how to hand out tests and see the results.

Day 3.

Real-time tracking and diagnostics – using Formative in and beyond the classroom

Formative is a complex and comprehensive assessment platform that is able to closely simulate paper-based tests. On top of offering a multitude of question types, it is also possible to monitor test completion in real-time, or even modify the live exercise, as well as receiving colourful reports about the students’ performance, not to mention the opportunity to give detailed feedback to each learner.

Day 4.

Digital worksheets

For more in-depth exercises it is necessary to provide learners with challenges to let them practise their skills and test their knowledge. Digital worksheets delivered via handheld devices in the classroom not only save paper, but time as well due to customizable auto-grade features. Moreover, Wizer.me offers real-time tracking solution to see how our students fare, while the differentiation function lets them work at their own pace.

Day 5.

Alternative assessment methods

How to alter our assessment methods in the digital space, where traditional testing procedures do not work. How to improve our testing procedures in the classroom with the help of online assessment methods. A practical approach to assessment theory through project based learning and gamification.

Final reflections on the course and take away thoughts for farewell

As a farewell activity, the course closes with individual reflections, as well as ideas on integrating the new knowledge and skills into teaching and training in the future.
